Cliff Bidlingmaier Secures Nearly $1 Million Settlement for Family in Jail Death Case

Attorney Cliff Bidlingmaier successfully resolved a wrongful death and civil rights lawsuit for $950,000 on behalf of the family of a young father who died after being found hanging in his jail cell.

The lawsuit alleged that, during his incarceration, the young man was subjected to harassment, taunting, and physical assaults by correctional employees. It further alleged that those responsible for his custody failed to adequately supervise him, perform cell searches, protect his safety, and address his serious medical needs.

After he was found hanging in his cell, he was transported to a hospital, where he died ten days later. He left behind a young son and grieving parents.

The family pursued claims involving civil rights violations, assault and battery, inadequate training and supervision, deliberate indifference to serious medical needs, wrongful death, and survivorship.

Through years of litigation, Cliff Bidlingmaier advocated for the family and secured this nearly million-dollar settlement.

Although no financial recovery can replace a loved one, the resolution provides meaningful financial support for the family and brings the litigation to a close.

People in custody depend on those responsible for their care and safety. We are honored to have represented this family in pursuing accountability following their devastating loss.
