The Hopewell Township jail, they allege, was so unsafe and unsanitary in 2024 that they went without reliable access to clean water, adequate meals, basic clothing and even proper utensils.

The second lawsuit involved the death of Joshua Stroman who died after he was found hanging in the correction center in 2024, as he was left unattended.

The third involves Terron Williams who suffered second- and third-degree burns on his feet and right leg when scalding water poured over him during a jail shower in February 2024. Mr. Williams is paralyzed and uses a wheelchair and could not feel the extreme heat when corrections officers turned on the water.
